in 2012 Primary

From its inception in 1980 through the election of 2008, the winner of the South Carolina Republican presidential primary has gone on to win the nomination. “DeMint, appearing on CBS’ This Morning, predicted that Saturday’s victor ‘is likely to be the next president of the United States.’” Rick Perry said to voters: “South Carolina picks presidents.”

Romney seemed to agree until Gingrich was declared the winner in South Carolina.

Romney’s campaign recently removed a web ad on their YouTube account with the tagline: “On Saturday South Carolina Picks a President.” The ad included words of praise for him from South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Arizona Sen. John McCain, the party’s 2008 nominee.”¹

Update: You can view the archived ‘unlisted’ video here. ‘Unlisted’ means only those with a special link can view. The ad has been removed from YouTube’s public spaces.

A screen shot from the web ad is pictured above.
