Former Secretary of Labor under President Clinton, Robert Reich, stated on Friday, that current unemployment rates merit enacting new measures  including a jobs program similar to the 1930′s WPA for the long term unemployed who may have given up looking for a job out of despair, and an initial tax free holiday for the first $28,000 earned income–a stimulus package for the low to middle income workers.

Companies right now are sitting on $1 Trillion worth of cash, not hiring new workers waiting to see how the new Health Bill and the proposed tax changes will affect their bottom line.  You can’t blame them for fears based upon uncertainty; the consumer faces the same quandry.  However, this does not move the economy forward in any significant way, especially for the diminishing middle class.

But As For Me…

Perhaps a stimulus package for the middle class with a tax holiday on the first $28,000 earned is an idea whose time has come!
