Is Michelle Obama The 21st Century Marie Antoinette?

The First Lady is not patterning her lifestyle in the White House along the lines of Eleanor Roosevelt, but more along another First Lady–of France, Marie Antoinette, as she vacations in an exclusive area of Spain’s Costa del Sol, a playground for the rich and famous. 

As reported yesterday by Jack Cafferty of CNN, with an invited guest list  and 70 secret service personnel, Michelle Obama’s entourage is renting up to one-third of the rooms at a pricey resort in Marbella.  Additonally, she took Air Force 2 as her means of transportation.  

But  As For Me…

Her advisors would have served her better to suggest that she vacation on the Gulf, a gesture that would have meant a great deal to Gulf residents, and would have gone a long way to returning vacationers to an area hit hard by the oil spill.

As it stands, it will take more than the lettuce growing on the White House grounds to foot this bill.   The Obamas apparently talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk that Middle America is doing on a daily basis as families enact austerity measures during this continued period of high unemployment.

Oh well, I guess we can all eat cake!
