Is this the odds in Vegas on a sports event? No. Unfortunately, it's the ratio of applicants for every job opening in the U.S. Could this have been avoided? Who knows given the mess that Wall Street, the Federal Reserve, and a benign government got us into. One thing for sure is that it could've been mitigated or addressed sooner than now. In fact, the loss of jobs should have been the first order of business for the Obama Administration. Sadly, Obama and his advisors saw the crisis as an opportunity to change the makeup of our Republic, and push through legislation that would ensure his place in history. This remaking of America was a political decision and did not address the real economic issues facing the nation. And rather than admitting that he couldn't pull it off, that the American voting public was smarter and questioned the rhetorical pablum of change being fed to the mass media, he placed his bet and we all lost.

Has this reality check awakened the President from his stupor of grandeur. Has he said that he gets it, that he feels our pain? No, again with an air of elitism, he cloaks his message in the rhetoric of misunderstanding and lack of communication–an implied necessity to dumb down the message of the Great Obama Society for us peons.

But As For Me…

The Tea Party Movement, the resurgence of the GOP, the recent elections in Massachusetts, New Jersey and others, the polls, even the recent Bush billboard in Minnesota, are all indicators, Mr. President, that the failure to railroad Health Care Reform at this juncture is not a result of miscommunications. And your attempts to manipulate the unemployment figure–jobs gained, saved, whatever fools no one who is unemployed and looking for work.

In the words of a predecessor’s campaign slogan:   It’s The Economy, Stupid! Will you hear us now?
