Hillary Say It Isn’t So!

Reports have it that the Secretary of State position in an Obama Cabinet is Hillary Clinton’s just for the taking. However, many supporters of Hillary do not consider this move to be advantageous to her career-wise, and would significantly “stifle” opposition to Obama’s policies by silencing an independent, knowledgeable voice in the Senate.

If Hillary does take the Cabinet position for good or bad, she will be linked with the policies of Barack Obama and should the country go from bad to worse under his leadership, would prevent mounting a campaign by her for the Presidency in 2012. Anchoring her political future with Obama’s Ship of State would mean ultimately going down with the ship if the domestic tides still continue to go out. Plus their is a potential conflict and jockeying for position of influence on foreign affairs between her and Vice President Joe Biden.

Although, she has been pigeon-holed somewhat in the Senate, her position there allows her an independent strong voice in the legislative arena that goes beyond just foreign affairs to include domestic issues as well. No doubt that Barack Obama would gain in credibility at home and abroad by her inclusion in his cabinet.

But As For Me…

With the problems looming on the horizon for this nation it would be to the nation’s advantage to keep the most experienced members of the Democratic Party within the legislative halls. Hillary brings a unique perspective to the Senate in matters concerning the current economic problems facing this nation having been involved in a similar situation at the beginning of her husband’s administration, and her expertise on health care issues, among others. This makes her voice on the Senate floor particularly necessary as the government struggles with a myriad of issues. Her addition as Secretary of State given Vice President Joe Biden’s experience will carry with it more limitations, and would infringe on her future potential to just another cog of the Obama Machine and an extension of his personality. Keeping the executive in check is a needed function of both parties, being absorbed and therefore buying into the Barack Administration stifles that opposition and problem-solving, and is not necessarily in her best interest or the nation’s.
