Although the emphasis at this week’s Republican Governor’s Conference has been centered around Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska and Republican nominee for Vice President, the more conservative wing of the Republican Party also has another governor waiting in the wings, the youngest elected governor and former Congressman from the 1st Congressional District, Louisiana’s Bobby Jindal. At the age of 37, Governor Jindal of Louisiana, is a new look for the Republican Party, the first non-white elected to that office since Reconstruction Days. However, he remains true to the strict constructionists of the Party on such issues as pro-life, embryonic cell research, the teaching of intellectual design. As a congressman, he voted with the Republican caucus 97% of the time.
His evacuation of the state during Hurricane Gustav and his passage of the state’s Campaign Ethics Reform deemed the strongest in the nation by The Center for Public Integrity, placed him onto the short list as a Vice President nominee this year, and a candidate of interest in the Republican Party. Questions still remain about Bobby Jindal, but as the Republicans begin to reorganize in this post-Election period, count on hearing more about him in the next 4 years.
